BAZTANGO takes place in Berrioplano, near the Baztan Valley, where dance, music, and nature come together to create a unique experience. It was born from the idea of bringing together people from different places in a warm and special atmosphere, where tango is lived authentically—among mountains, villages, and landscapes that invite connection.

Our story
BAZTANGO was born in 2004 as a small and intimate initiative, driven by the desire to create a different kind of space to experience tango. Its origin is tied to a deep affection for the Baztan Valley and the belief that dance can connect people profoundly when it happens in a mindful, well-cared-for environment, with time and intention. From the beginning, the goal was clear: more than a massive event, a gathering with soul.

Over the years, BAZTANGO has grown organically, always staying true to its essence: prioritizing quality over quantity, offering a diverse and balanced program, and taking care of every detail—from the music and venues to the food and the atmosphere. It was only suspended twice, in 2020 and 2021, due to the pandemic.

Throughout its history, the festival has traveled across various parts of the Basque Country, being held in four different hotels. Each location brought something unique, but the spirit of warmth and care remained the same. In the end, BAZTANGO returned close to where it all began, strengthening its special bond with the valley and its surroundings.

Today, BAZTANGO has established itself as a special event in the tango calendar, staying true to its values while exploring new ways to keep evolving. It has grown from hosting around a hundred participants to nearly three hundred, without losing the welcoming character that defines it. Each edition is an opportunity to reunite, rediscover the valley, and continue growing a community that moves to the rhythm of the embrace, the music… and the landscape.
